சில மாதங்களுக்கு முன்னர் ஒரு வடைக்கும் ஒரு கிண்ணம் தேநீருக்கும் 1000 ரூபாய் சுற்றுலா பயணியிடம் வாங்கி ஏமாற்றிய தேநீர் கடை உரிமையாளர் பற்றியும் பிறகு அவர் தண்டிக்கப்பட்டதையும் பார்த்தோம்.

A few months ago we saw a tea shop owner who cheated a tourist by selling a cup of tea and and a vadai for Rs.1000 and then he was punished.

ஆனால் பெரிய பணக்கார முதலைகளினால் இயக்கப்படும் ஹோட்டல் மற்றும் உணவு விடுதிகளில் எவ்வாறு ஏமாற்றப்படுகின்றனர் என்பதை இன்று ஆதாரத்துடன் பார்ப்போம்.

But today we will see with evidence how innocent customers are cheated in hotels and restaurants run by super rich owners.

இன்று இரவு கொள்ளுப்பிட்டியில் உள்ள பிரபல ஹோட்டல் ரேணுகாவில் உள்ள palmyra restaurant க்கு 5 நண்பர்களுடன் இரவு போசனத்துக்காக சென்றிருந்தேன்.

Tonight I went to Palmyra restaurant in Hotel Renuka at Kollupitiya with 5 friends for dinner.

இறுதியாக அவர்களுடைய ரசீதை பார்த்தபோது எனக்கு தூக்கி வாரிப்போட்டது.

When I finally saw their receipt I was completely surprised.

ஏனென்றால் பிரதான உணவுக்கு 30240 ரூபாய்கள் என்றும் வரியுடன் 40,638 ரூபாய்கள் என்று போட்டிருந்தது (இணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது ).

Because the main meal cost was stated as Rs 30,240 and with tax it was increased to Rs 40,638 (attached).

அதாவது 34.38% வரி போடப்பட்டு இருந்தது எனக்கு ஆச்சரியமாக இருந்தது.

I was surprised that 34.38% tax was levied.

Vat வரி 18% என்ற படியால் மேலாளரை அழைத்து எவ்வாறு வரி இப்படி அதிகரித்தது என்று விசாரித்தேன்.

I called the manager and inquired as to how the tax has increased to this amount when the VAT was only 18%.

அவர் 18% வாட் வரி என்பதை உறுதி செய்ததுடன் சேவை வரி 10% என்று விளக்கம் அளித்தார்.

He confirmed that VAT is 18% and explained that service charge is 10%.

நான் இது 28% ஐ விட அதிகமாக இருக்கிறது என்று கூறிய போது 2% சுற்றுலா பயணி வரி என்று கூறினார்.

When I said it was more than 28%, he said 2% tourist tax was also added.

நான் என்னுடன் வந்த மொத்தமாக 6 பேரில் ஒருவர் மட்டுமே வெளிநாட்டில் இருந்து வந்தவர் நீங்கள் எவ்வாறு எங்களிடம் சுற்றுலா பயணி வரி விதிக்க முடியும் என்று கேட்டபோது அவரால் எந்த பதிலும் அளிக்க முடியவில்லை.

I informed him that out of the total 6 people who came with me only one person was a foreigner and asked him how he could charge us tourist tax. he could not answer..

மேலும் மேலதிகமாக 2% வரி அல்ல 28% வரிக்கு மேலதிகமாக 6.38% வரி அறவிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

And not 2% additional tax but 6.38% tax has been levied in addition to 28% tax.

அதற்குரிய விளக்கம் எதுவும் உங்களுடைய ரசீதில் இல்லை என்று கூறியபோது அவர் பதிலை சொல்ல முடியாமல் திணறினார்.

Manager was at a loss to answer when I inquired why there was no explanation for the increased tax in the receipt issued to customers.

சிறுகடை உரிமையாளரை 1000 ரூபாய் வடைக்காக தண்டித்தார்கள்.

The small shop owner was punished for cheating a tourist with a Rs 1000 vadai.

ஆனால் நாள் தோறும் இவ்வாறு பல லட்சம் ரூபாய்களை சுற்றுலா பயணிகளிடமும் இலங்கை குடிமக்களிடமும் ஏமாற்றி வசூலிக்கும் இவர்களை போன்றவர்களை தண்டிப்பது யார் ?

But who will punish big hotel owners who cheat tourists and Sri Lankan citizens with millions of rupees every day by issuing falsified bills?

ஊழல் நிறைந்த ராஜபக்சர்களின் ஆட்சிக்கு பிறகு ஊழல் அனைத்து மட்டங்களிலும் தலைவிரித்தாடும் நிலையில் இவர்களை தண்டிக்கும் ஆட்சி மாற்றம் ஏற்படுமா ?

After the reign of the corrupt Rajapaksa when corruption is rampant at all levels, will there be a regime change to punish the culprits in this country?
